Piona Abbey & Winetasting in a historic cellar of Valtellina
Piona Abbey, a typical building of the Comacina Art in exposed square stone, is a rare jewel of Lombard Romanesque architecture. Located on the peninsula of Olgiasca on the extreme tip of the Lecco branch, it offers a splendid panoramic view of the west coast of Lake Como, as well as the chance to enjoy the tranquillity and peace enjoyed by the Cistercians monks who still leave there today. After the visit we continue by bus to one of the most typical historic cellars of Valtellina, a natural fridge in a cavity between the mountain rocks, “Crotto” in italian, where the humidity and temperature were maintained by the prevailing wind. Visit and tasting of two wines accompanied by local products before returning to Lake Como.
